Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the original American Girl Pretty Clothes Pattern for Felicity? I just need a copy; it does not have to be the original pattern, providing this is permissible. All of the ones on ebay are just out of my price range. I would appreciate any suggestions. Everyone is so helpful on this board. I am so glad I found you when I was doing a search on the MCM sale. I have been addicted ever since, to the dolls and this board; although, I am a quiet one and mainly read instead of participating.

You could try second-hand stores like Goodwill, yard/garage sales, and perhaps a used bookstore would have one every blue moon.

I would just keep looking on ebay, garage sales and second hand stores.
McCalls also makes "craft patterns" for 18" dolls that are appropriate to Felicity's era. Since you are going to be using different fabrics, these patterns will produce dresses that are similar to the ones she has. And you can always adapt them to make them more similiar to Felicity's clothes.
It would violate Copyright laws for someone to just make a copy of a pattern though, so you shouldn't encourage that.
Unfortunatly copyrights extend long after production.
It's perfectly legal to use sewing patterns and then sell them, or to lend them out. But in theory, when you copy patterns to use as a working copy, you are supposed to destroy them.
The issue comes up a lot in the knitting world- and it really ****s when a design is no longer available for purchase and used copies cost hundreds of dollars, but you don't want to do something illegal either.
You don't have to delete your post on my account. It's like downloading music or movies, you have to make your own choice.
Some people just don't actually know that they aren't supposed to do that,and it's a more informed decision if they do know.
I have no idea of the legalities of this issue - but if Pleasant Company owned the copyright to the patterns, and Pleasant Company no longer exists, does the copyright still exist?
Conversely, copyrights usually state that the item may not be reproduced without written permission. Do you think American Girl/Mattel would grant such permission, given that they didn't initiate the patterns, aren't likely ever to reissue them, and they wouldn't be for commercial use?
If someone wants to ask AG if they would grant permission, I'd be delighted to copy my patterns for just a token fee - enough to cover the actual cost of photocopying and mailing.

Alright I sent one.
The only thing is, I'm not sure if they even could grant me permission to copy the patterns since I don't have them. But at least the person with the patterns would know what kind of response they could get if they asked.
I did say for non-commerical use, and the person who owned the patterns would not sell the copied patterns.
I sent it to customer service, so I might just get an email back telling me where to direct it. Or it might just be a long time till I get any kind of response.
Maybe I will look on the mattel site to see if there is someone else I should send a letter to.

The person who actually has the patterns should fill this out and send it in. I would make sure to state the exact number of copies needed, reitterate that these are discontinued, and that this is a serious group of collectors who likely already have, or will aquire the actual dresses, so distributing these patterns will not hurt sales.
Stress that the patterns are for non-commercial use only and will not be sold to the people you are giving them too.
It would be so cool to get these patterns.
If you really do go to the trouble of doing this, count me in as someone who wants a set [img]smile.gif[/img]
Thank you all so very much for your replies. You are all so very helpful and I was just looking for some options. I only sew for personal use so would not be making these to make any kind of personal profit. I checked with our local library and that was not an option but at least you gave me an idea. Like I said in my first post, I only wanted a copy of the pattern if it was permissible. I appreciate the great lengths everyone goes to, to help others out on this board; you are the greatest!
